MA Fine Art: Drawing Proposal

Yifei Sun(Roy)

Religion affects almost everyone on our planet whether they are religious or atheists. How religion affects us, and how we affect religion.

Aims and Objectives

My aim is to explore the impact of environment, politics, and culture on religion through research. Different religions exist around the world, and religious art has contributed greatly to the promotion of religion, and of course, religion has an extraordinary significance to art. I hope to find answers in the religious artworks of different countries. I will also explore the future direction of religion. I will be using different materials to render religious images on canvas.

My aims are:

·  I will explore the impact of religion on human processes, culture and life and even the direction of history.

·  Although I am a Buddhist, I hope I can change my prejudices and face religions

from all over the world, exploring the charms of these religions and the commonalities between them.

·  I will be doing a lot of research online and offline. Art is just one way of expressing religion, and I will also go out of my profession to find various ways to get answers.

·  To prove that religion does not fall away because of the progress of science,

and that even religion contains science and science contains religion.

What I want to say:

What I want to express is that there are many religions in the world, and they are often more than just religions to people. Religious people believe in their religions just like many people believe in science, and religion is their spiritual and physical support, and it is what keeps them alive. Many people have told me that religion will die out because science will prove everything, and this is especially true in China, where most people are not religious, especially young people. I hope that through my research and efforts I can find answers for the future of religion. I hope that through the artworks I create, people will accept new religious art and thus develop new thinking and understanding of religion. Religious tenets aside, the impact of religion on people, this part is the most important area of my research.

Research and material requirement:

·  Find religious leaders and record the feedback they give me through interviews. They may be leaders of different religions or from different countries.

·  looked up books on religion, sociology and psychology in various countries, and made my own conjectures and hypotheses based on the contents of the books.

·  I will visit museums and try to find answers in the artifacts.

·  I will try to explain the answer through my own painting and photography.

Methods:

I will keep my own drawing style, combine the research results to make a multi-genre drawing challenge, and use clear lines to portray so that the audience can more easily understand what I want to express.
